EECP
Narrowed or blocked arteries can rob people of breath,
energy and quality of life. But invasive bypass surgery
or angioplasty is sometimes not a viable or recommended
treatment option. In such cases, Enhanced External Counterpulsation
(EECP) is an attractive
treatment alternative for patients who can no longer
benefit from additional surgery or angioplasty, and
for whom medical therapy has already been maximized.
At PCC, patients can undergo EECP treatment
as comfortably as lying on a bed. Blood pressure cuffs
on the calves and thighs rapidly inflate and deflate in
time with the heartbeat to improve the flow of healthy,
oxygenated blood to the heart by opening or forming small
(collateral) blood vessels, which create natural bypasses
around narrowed or blocked arteries). In doing so, EECP
reduces or eliminates angina, increases energy and stamina,
returns patients to activities they thought they had given
up forever.
